Colonia 89, Ensenada, Baja, CA. Mexico

This mission work began August, 2005.  This family was chosen to start a new congregation in the northern most part of Ensenada, where many of the children from the City of Children are from.  Below you will find reports and pictures from Reyes on the new work.

Reyes Medina Higuerón:

Reyes says "I am originally from the state of Hidalgo in west central Mexico. I am married to Crescenciana Hernandes Bautista and have three children, Jorge David (15), Abigail (12), Anna (10)."

Reyes was converted and baptized in 1998 in Decatur Alabama by Justo Dorantes. From 2000 to 2002 my wife, Crescenciana, and I both attended ILEB the Bible Institute in Toluca, Mexico.

In August of 2005 we moved to Ensenada, Baja, Mexico and started a new church in Colonia 89, a suburb on the north part of the city.

In Feb. 2006 we purchaced property with a house where the church can meet.

Men's Building Trip Feb. 08

This years men's trip led by Jim Johnson and John Dyas was another success story. Under the supervision of Jim Ecker the first two story house was built in Colonia 89 by our group. Also a decorative wood ceiling was put up in the new church building.

We were especially blessed by being part of two conversions resulting in baptisims.

Wednesday, April 30 - Today we helped Isidro and took him to the government offices in town to get a card for him for he has special needs. We went and bought a set of food for Erika and her six children and right now her husband doesn’t have a job. Arcadio and I went and bought a lock for the door for the women’s bathroom. In the afternoon Patricia, Mary my wife and I went and got the clothes that they collected to sell at the flee market so we can save that money for emergencies.

When we were leaving a man named Jesus came over and asked what Baja Missions is and we explained to him what it is, and he let us know that he drinks a lot and has many problems with his family and he asked us to pray for him and for his family. We invited him for church. In the afternoon we got together with the leaders to correct some mistakes.

Friday, May 2 - This morning we visited with Amelia, she had been visiting us at church but she has been sick, she is an elderly lady and she lives by herself. One of the things that the church of Christ in Colonia 89 has though about is the elderly people, we see that there are rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, people that drink and others. But there isn’t a home for elderly people to spend their last days on this earth being taken care of. We as a congregation would like to have a place for the elderly people and that way we can teach them about the word for when they leave this earth they will be prepared; John 15:12-17.

We understand the solution to it is humbleness, communion and clean our hearts.

Wednesday, April 23 - Today we thank God and we do everything for his honor and glory, we are happy for Adolfo Garcia and his wife Erica Garcia for they were baptized for the remission of their sins. We thank Ricardo that he lets us use the baptistery at the city of children. We pray God will continue blessing him with his work and family. After the baptism we visited with Gerarda, we encouraged her to continue coming to church with us, she let us know that she hasn’t been able to come the last few days because she’s had some family problems. We had bible study with Patricia and her daughter Elizabeth, this time I talked about the Jesus, Mark 16:16, Romans 1:16, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 6:3-4. In the afternoon I got a call from a man named Arturo and he said he wanted to meet me at the church building, he talked to me and he let me know that he just got out of the rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Tijuana and that he wants to attend church with us so he won’t go back to his old ways.

Thursday, April 24 - Today I went to the doctor early in the morning for I had an upset stomach, he gave me medication but I still felt really weak all day and night.

Friday, April 25 - This morning I continue feeling weak not as bad as yesterday, in the afternoon I went to class at the church building, this time Jesus Trenado, Noe and Adolfo were in charge of the class.

Saturday, April 26 - Today Chanita and I decided to visit with the members and visitors that have stopped coming to church, this way we know the reason and we can pray for them. We visited with Amelia, she is still sick so we bought medicine and food for her for she is an elderly lady. We visited with Jessica and she let us know she is having problems with her husband and with her mother. Mary, Patricia, Chanita and I got everything ready for tomorrow we will celebrate children’s day.

Sunday, April 27 - Today we got together for worship. We had 34 adults and 26 children; we collected $444.90 pesos in the contribution. For the sermon I talked about the Christian as a father, Joshua 24:15, 1 Thessalonians 2:11, Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 4:9, Matthew 7:9-11. After worship we had our fellowship Sunday we also had cake for the ones that celebrated their birthday this month. We had two piñatas for the children. In the afternoon we had class with the ILEB students, after that I met with Noe, Arcadio, Jesus and Adolfo to talk about the activities for the week.

We thank all of you for your prayers for the people here and as you can see your prayers were answered this week for we had two people were baptized.

Since we’ve had people breaking into the building and bathrooms to steal, the leaders of the church and I talked about maybe building a house in the church property for a couple to live there or a man to live there that way they will keep an eye on the church building at night.
